Thousands of farmers will hold a tractor rally on Sunday to block the Delhi-Jaipur Highway to intensify their protest against the new Farm Bill. They said the demonstrators would also hold a hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm.

In the border areas, major security forces have been mobilized to stop farmers from blocking national highways.

"We have taken all these initiatives to increase the income of the farmers and make them more prosperous. Today, Indian farmers can sell their produce both on the mandis and outside."

More than 1,000 police officers were deployed on the Gurgaon border with Delhi and 3,500 police officers were deployed in Faridabad to block the protesters' movement after they said they would occupy the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

Farmers have been told of occupying some of the toll places and allowing vehicles to move through them without paying any fees, according to the news agency AFP.

On Saturday, PM Modi told farmers that the agrarian sector reforms were aimed at helping them. "Reforms will help draw investment in agriculture and benefit farmers", he said at the annual meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi.

Farmers, meanwhile are firm about their demands and insist they want nothing less than to repeal the new legislation.

Protesters denied arguments on Friday that "ultra-left" inspired their agitation. "We deny the government's assertion. No one can manipulate us. This is the propaganda of the government to defame us. The Samyukt Kisan Union takes all the decisions", Raminder Singh Patiyal, president of one of the 32 demonstrating groups Kirti Kisan Sangathan, said.
