A group of teenagers under investigation by Nepal Police over an insensitive Facebook group

The whole county is in mourning due to the increasing rape cases in Nepal. No woman feels safe to walk the streets alone, whether it be in broad daylight or at night. 2-3 different rape cases get logged every single day from all over the country. According to Nepal Police data, rape cases have increased from 1,480 from the year 2017/2018 to 2,144 in the year 2019/2020.

Over the past few months, we have seen a menacing hike in the number. From a newborn child to an 80-year-old elder, everybody has been a victim of rape.

While this topic has been extremely sensitive to most people, some netizens beg to differ. A Facebook user, who shall remain nameless due to privacy reasons, created a Facebook page named "Raper Association" on Sunday.

The group, which has now been deleted had 100+ members at the time of its deletion. The posts in that group were highly offensive and made in bad taste. It included a couple of rape threats, one to the President's relatives and another to '1 crore Nepalese women'.

One of the posts even said, "I will rape freely because there is nobody to stop me!"

While the tears of the victims still haven't dried up, these people are making fun of their situation by blatantly condoning and encouraging rape.

The police have started looking into the matter as of now.

If you can't sympathize with them, the least one can do is not make fun of them.
