UK police officer shot dead inside Croydon Custody Centre in South London.

A police officer was shot dead inside a police station at Croydon Custody Centre in South London.

The male custody sergeant was shot five times at 2.15 am on Friday when a suspected was being detained, during a search. Officers who witnessed the shooting,  battled to save their officer life and ten taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, but later died.

The gunman, a 23-year-old man had been arrested and taken to the hospital in a critical condition with a gunshot wound.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson offers the deepest condolence,” We owe a huge debt to those who risk their own lives to keep us safe.”

In the past decade, the custody sergeant is the tenth police officer to have been killed in the line of duty in the past decade.

According to the police, no police firearms were discharged.
