India Covid-19 death toll surpass 50,921

India now has become the worst-hit corona affected country in the world overtaking Russia according to its health ministry. Globally, 21,828,997 people have been infected with the virus so far.

In the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases were recorded in a single day. The Indian Health Ministry on Saturday reported there were 57,981 fresh cases of the pandemic (Covid-19).

India’s death toll rose to 941 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing the total to over 2,647,663 coronavirus cases.

The country’s death toll rose to 50,921 and there are 6,76,900 active cases, according to the health ministry’s. There are 19,19,842 people who have been successfully discharged across the country till date, has pushed the recovery rate to 72.51%.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,00,41,400 samples were tested across the country as of Sunday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.

India imposed a stringent lockdown to control the spread of the virus but has been reduced in recent weeks to resume economic activity. Now, infection numbers have skyrocketed since the government ease lockdown.

Epidemiologists warned that the risk of corona in India would increase in the coming weeks and months. Health experts say the true extent of the pandemic spread in India is unknown and that the country must test more.
