New Delhi- In the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases were recorded in a single day. More than 22 thousand people were corona positive.

India’s death toll rose to  442 deaths recorded in a single day.

This increase in the number of infected is believed due to heavy rains in the western and southern parts of the country.

On Saturday, 6,364 fresh cases of the virus were recorded in the western state of Maharashtra in the financial capital Mumbai and 198 people died due to Covid-19. India became the third-most corona-infected country in the world, according to Health Ministry data. There are over 648,000 cases of corona in India.

More than India, corona cases have been found in the United States, Brazil,  and Russia.

Authorities in Mumbai warned residents to stay away from the coast, as heavy rains are predicted for the next 48 hours.

Experts say that the monsoon usually causes waterlogging in many parts of the city which may increase the risk of corona outbreak. Tamil Nadu is the most infected state after Maharashtra. Where the number of corona positive people has crossed 1 lakh.

 India imposed a stringent lockdown in March to control the spread of the virus, but has been reduced in recent weeks to resume economic activity.

 Epidemiologists warned that the risk of corona in India would increase in the coming weeks and months.
