US President Donald Trump criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday, calling her a “sick woman” with ‘mental problems’ and a “waste of time” after the lawmaker labeled him “morbidly obese” in a television interview a day prior.
Earlier, in an interview, US Democrat Pelosi said Trump should not be taking the drug hydroxychloroquine to protect against contracting the coronavirus because he is ''morbidly obese.''
The President had revealed on Monday that he had been taking hydroxychloroquine in addition to zinc as a preventative measure, saying he heard positive reviews of the drug from front-line health-care workers.
“I don’t respond to her. I think she's a waste of time,” Trump told reporters on Capitol Hill when asked for his response to Pelosi’s remarks during a CNN interview Monday evening.
Also, in response to an unrelated question about the case involving his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Trump lashed out at Pelosi, alleging she has "mental problems."
Trump and Pelosi have traded barbs for years, including over her frequent public assertion that she ''prays'' for him.
Pelosi notably ripped up a copy of Trump’s speech at the State of the Union in February after the president declined to shake her hand when he entered the chamber.
The relationship between Trump and Pelosi, while never strong, grew increasingly sour throughout Trump’s impeachment. The two haven’t spoken in months despite the global pandemic.
