According to authorities, Russian forces began the month of June with a fresh aerial bombardment of Kyiv on Thursday, killing at least three persons and wounding others.
Following a reported 17 attacks on the Ukrainian capital in May, the majority of which were carried out by drones, Russian forces struck the capital early in the morning with ground-launched missiles, causing damage to apartment buildings, a medical clinic, a water conduit, and a vehicle.
The Kyiv City Administration reported three fatalities, including two minors, and ten injuries. The number of casualties was the highest for a single attack on Kyiv in the previous month.
After a woman was killed earlier this week while witnessing an aerial attack from her balcony, Kyiv authorities urged residents to heed warning sirens and seek shelter or other safe locations.
The effectiveness of Ukraine's air defenses in intercepting Russian drones and missiles has increased, but the resultant debris occasionally causes fires and injuries in buildings and on the ground. Initial reports indicated that Kyiv's air defenses intercepted all incoming weapons early Thursday morning and that the most recent fatalities and injuries resulted from falling debris.
In the Desnianskyi district, the debris descended on a hospital and an adjacent multistory structure. In another neighborhood, Dniprovskyi, a residential structure was damaged by debris, parked vehicles caught fire, and debris fell onto the road.
Russian forces launched three airstrikes south of the Kherson region on Wednesday, in addition to missile and heavy artillery strikes in other areas.

Two construction employees in Russia's Kursk region were injured by shelling from Ukraine, according to the region's governor, Roman Starovoit. This attack appears to have originated across the border. He stated on the Telegram channel that the two were constructing a defensive line along the state's frontier in the Korenevsky district.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian Navy landing ship Yurii Olefirenko was destroyed in an attack on Odesa harbor on Monday. Ukraine provided no immediate comment. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that the Yurii Olefirenko was the last active Ukrainian Navy vessel, but this claim could not be independently confirmed.
