China reported 14,878 new COVID-19 infections on November 12, including a record number of new cases per day in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Zhengzhou, manufacturing hubs.

In Guangzhou and Zhengzhou, industrial activity has been disrupted to control outbreaks, which has led to the emergence of new cases.

On Sunday, the National Health Commission (NHC) reported that the number of daily cases in China rose from 11,950 on November 11th. Excluding imported infections, China reported 14,761 new local cases, an increase from the previous day's total of 11,801.

Beijing reported a record 235 new cases per day, up from 116 the day before, according to data from the local government.

Guangzhou, a city of nearly 19 million people, reported 3,653 new locally transmitted cases, which was also a record high. This was up from 3,180 cases the previous day.

The city of Zhengzhou in Henan province, where the Foxconn factory is located, reported a record 2,642 new cases per day. Foxconn has stated that it intends to resume full production in the second half of November, following a disruption in operations caused by COVID prevention measures.

The record highs also coincide with official media reports that efforts to remove "pop-up windows" from smartphone health apps that prevent people from entering or returning to Beijing are "in progress" and in effect in numerous locations. For unrestricted mobility, the health application requires a negative PCR test.

NHC announced several changes to China's COVID restrictions on Friday, easing some travel, quarantine, and business restrictions.

Sunday's statement from the NHC described the COVID prevention and control situation as "serious and complex."

"It is necessary to maintain a strategic focus and conduct the work of epidemic prevention and control scientifically and precisely," it stated.
