The US intelligence community should analyze the damage to national security caused by former President Trump's storage of confidential materials at his Florida club, according to leading House Democrats.

In a three-page letter, House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Adam Schiff of California and House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York requested a comprehensive assessment of Monday's FBI raid from the Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines.

Schiff and Maloney noted that the retrieved papers span 45 categories, including 11 sets of classified documents ranging from "Confidential" to "Secret" to "Top Secret" and "TS/SCI documents," according to a search warrant and property record unsealed on Friday.

The MPs stated, "The unauthorized disclosure of Top Secret information would cause exceptionally grave damage to national security."

According to the letter, the congressmen requested a review of the former president's handling of the confiscated materials related to the obstruction of justice and espionage investigation of Trump by the Department of Justice.

Schiff and Maloney especially questioned the DNI about allegations that the records contained secret nuclear weapons documents.

"If this report is accurate, it is difficult to overstate the threat to national security posed by the decision to remove and retain this information," they wrote.

Trump has claimed that the documents recovered from his residence were declassified and has hinted that the FBI manufactured evidence during the raid.
