According to the country's Geodynamic Institute, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook Crete, Greece, on Wednesday.
There were no reports of injuries or property damage at the time.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) previously assigned a magnitude of 6.1 to the tremor. Egyptian authorities confirmed that the earthquake was felt in several places.
According to Akis Tselentis, head of the Geodynamic Institute in Crete, authorities revised the reading to 5.7 from 5.6 previously. "I felt it," he told Skai TV in Greece.
"Fortunately, it was in the sea. The area is already stressed (from previous tremors), and if the tremor had occurred inland, there could have been devastation," he explained.
The EMSC reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 49.7 kilometers. According to Greece's Geodynamic Institute, the depth was 42.7 kilometers.
