According to official Syrian media, Israel launched a missile strike on Syria's Latakia port early Tuesday.
At approximately 1:23 a.m., the missiles were launched from the direction of the Mediterranean, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), quoting a Syrian military source.
Governor Ismail Hilal of Latakia told SANA that firefighting forces had doused the following fire in the port's cargo yard.
There were no casualties reported.
Syria's primary commercial maritime hub is located in Latakia.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, located in the United Kingdom and with contacts on the ground in Syria, the strike targeted a weapons shipment belonging to "Iran-backed militias." According to the study, the attack resulted in tremendous explosions and "heavy" material damage.
According to SOHR, this is Israel's 27th strike in Syria this year.
On Nov. 24, Syrian state media stated that an Israeli strike in the Homs region killed two individuals and injured seven others. According to the report, six of the wounded were servicemen, while the remainder were civilians. According to SOHR sources, four individuals died due to the hit, two of them as a result of falling debris from an Israeli missile intercepted by Syrian air defenses.
On Nov. 9, Syrian state media stated that Israel had hit various sites in Syria's central and coastal regions, wounded two Syrian soldiers, and caused material damage.
Syrian media claimed on Nov. 3 an Israeli strike near the town of Zakiyah in the Rif Dimashq region.
Five militiamen were reported killed in an attack in the Damascus area on Oct. 30. And on Oct. 25, Israel reportedly bombed targets in southeastern Syria's Quneitra Governorate.
