Schools were closed indefinitely and some coal-fired power stations were shut down as the smog-shrouded Indian capital and neighboring states resorted to extreme measures to tackle rising air pollution on Wednesday.
The shutdown is being debated by India's top court, which is the first of its sort in the country to combat pollution rather than coronavirus illnesses.
It's unclear how far it'll go, but the New Delhi government has already indicated that it's willing to impose a weekend curfew similar to the one imposed during the pandemic.
It is now awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court, which might come as soon as November 24.
