Israeli troops are said to have shot a Palestinian man today. Saddam Bani Odeh was slain by Israeli soldiers during an arrest operation in Tubas, in the northeastern West Bank, according to the Palestinian Authority's WAFA news agency. The event elicited no immediate response from the Israel Defense Forces.
 

Other violent incidents have occurred recently in the West Bank and Jerusalem. According to the Gaza-based news outlet Shehab, a gang of Jews assaulted Arabs in the Ras al-Amud area of East Jerusalem on Saturday. According to The Times of Israel, unknown individuals threw stones and firecrackers at a vehicle on Friday, in what one right-wing Jewish organization labeled a "lynching."

According to an article in the left-wing Israeli publication +972 Magazine, on November 10, Israeli settlers allegedly shot Palestinian people in Khallet ad-Daba'a in the southern West Bank.

During the 1967 war, Israel took the West Bank from Jordan. The majority of the population is Palestinian, however the region also houses about 400,000 Israeli settlers. Despite Israel's denials, the majority of the international world and the United Nations recognize the West Bank as Palestinian territory occupied by Israel. The Israeli military and the Palestinian Authority share authority of the West Bank's border, while the Israeli military and the Palestinian Authority share interior control.

Israel controls and governs all of Jerusalem, but Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of a future independent state. Jerusalem is recognized as Israel's capital by some countries, including the United States. 

Attacks by Israeli settlers are not new and cause much tension in the West Bank.
