The death toll in Haiti following a disastrous 7.2 magnitude earthquake has crossed 2,200 and hundreds of people are still missing, according to the authorities.

According to the Haitian Authorities, the death toll has climbed up to 2, 207 and more than 344 people are still missing.

Rescue efforts from the government agencies have been facing security issues and have also been hindered due to flooding and damage to access roads, feeding tensions in some of the hardest-hit areas. 

While the authorities struggle to fight with the gangs, one of the "gangs" known by the name G9 revolutionary force has said it will be assisting the rescue efforts, at a time when the government has failed.

G9 revolutionary forces is an alliance claiming to be " a revolutionary force to deliver Haiti from the opposition, the government and the Haitian bourgeoisie." The so-called "gang" led by the former Police officer Jimmy Cherizier, alias Barbecue, has been fighting against the foreign-backed gangs, the national bourgeoisie, and the Haitian oppositions.

In a Facebook video, Barbecue promised extended help to the Haitian people.

“We want to tell them that the G9 Revolutionary Forces and allies, all for one and one for all, sympathize with their pain and sorrows,” Cherizier said. “The Revolutionary Forces G9 and allies … will participate in the relief by bringing them help. We invite all compatriots to show solidarity with the victims by trying to share what little there is with them.”

On the other side, Cuban doctors have been involved in relief operations to provide medical assistance.

Cuban brigade has deployed hundreds of doctors in the country to help the Latin American nations at the time of crisis.
