President Joe Biden of the United States announced on Saturday that he has asked the country's intelligence services to look into who was behind a sophisticated ransomware attack that affected hundreds of American firms and raised suspicions of Russian gang participation.
The current ransomware attack, according to security firm Huntress Labs, was caused by the Russia-linked REvil ransomware organization. The FBI blamed the same gang for paralyzing meatpacker JBS S.A. last month.
Russia, on the other hand, has denied any involvement in the recent cyberattacks in the United States. "We hope that the American side will abandon the practice of unfounded accusations and focus on professional work with Russian experts to strengthen international information security, and in this context, on joint efforts to combat cybercrime," the Russian Embassy to the United States wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
