The US Supreme Court decided on Monday (Tuesday AEST) to consider overturning the 1973 Roe v Wade decision, which legalised abortion in the United States.
Mississippi would ask the Supreme Court to reinstate a Republican-backed state law prohibiting abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
The justices will consider whether to reverse a key aspect of the historic decision during their next term, which begins in October and ends in June 2022, a long-held ambition of religious conservatives.
