At least 11 people died in a violent storm that hit a Chinese city near the city of Shanghai, late Friday. According to the officials, more than a hundred people have been injured during the storm.

Nine people in a fishing boat that went fishing on Friday evening have not been in contact after the storm, but two others in the same boat have been rescued safely.  

The death toll from the storm, which hit the city of Nantong on the northern bank of the Yangtze River with a population of eight million, has risen, according to the Chinese website Tutiao.com. 

Some of the dead were found crushed by trees and electricity poles after the storm, while others were found thrown into the water by the wind, local officials said via social media Oiwo. 

At least 102 people have been injured in the storm, many homes have been destroyed and about 3,000 locals have been evacuated.
