Armed with blow torches, bats, and Hammers, hundreds of women marched to demonstrate in front of the president's residence on the occasion of International Working Women's Day.

The women demanded the Mexican Government to take action against one of the worst rates of gender-related violence in the world.

The Working Women's day Protest was fueled by anger against the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He has backed a politician who has been accused of rape by several women in the country.

The angry protesters brokedown the barricades put up by the police to protect the building from being overrun.

As the police fired grenades volleys of flash-bang grenades into the crowd, it caused several stampedes in the crowd.

62 police officers and 19 demonstrators were injured in the demonstration.

President Lopez said on Monday that his government is committed to gender equality.

According to a media report, only 5% of the sexual assault allegations including rape in the years 2014 to 2018, have resulted in a criminal sentence.

Women were killed at an average of 10 per day last year in the North American Country.
