The $15 minimum wage plan suffered a setback on Friday after eight democrats voted against it.
The proposal by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders as an attempt to waive a procedural objection to adding the $15 minimum wage to a COVID-19 relief package was resoundingly defeated by a vote of 58-42 in which seven Democrats and one independent joined all 50 Republicans.
The Eight Senators who voted against the minimum wage are Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Jeene Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, John Tester of Montana, Tom Carper and Chris Coons of Delaware, and Angus King of Maine.
The $15 minimum wage has been looked upon as one of the key goals of the Biden Administration. Many People even say Biden Administration has to pass this if they want to have the control over the senate maintained even after the mid-terms.
“If anybody thinks that we’re giving up on this issue, they are sorely mistaken. If we have to vote on it time and time again, we will and we’re going to succeed,” Bernie Sanders vowed to not give up on this issue.
He said, “The American people understand that we cannot continue to have millions of people working for starvation wages.”
“We knew exactly what was happening,” he said saying he was not surprised by the number of Democrats who voted against the bill.
