At least 10 Iranian rockets targeted a military airbase in western Iraq. The military airbase hosted US-led coalition troops on Wednesday.
It has not been reported of any casualties.
AFP reported that the rockets were Iranian-made Arash models, citing Western Security Forces. The rockets were 122mm artillery rockets and heavier than those seen in other attacks on Western targets in Iraq.
Iraqi military released a statement saying the attack did not significant losses and that security forces had found the launch pad used for the missiles.
This is the first attack since the US struck Iran-aligned militia targets along the Iraq-Syria border last week.
The strike follows the Iranian diplomat's urged the Iraqi foreign minister to remove the US military bases for regional stability.
US troops have significantly been decreased in Iraq in the later years of the Trump Administration.
The attack comes two days prior to Pope Francis' scheduled visit to Iraq.
