With a net worth of about $80 billion, India's Mukesh Ambani is back in the game again after China's Zhong Shanshan loses about $22 billion. In spite of a brutal week for markets, Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd. was intact.
Ambani spent most of the past two years leading the ranking of Asia’s richest people, taking over from Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s Jack Ma. Zhong was able to grab the title of Ambani at the end of December but the rally dwindled as the Chinese and the Hongkong stock markets had the world's biggest decline.
Ambani has engrossed on revolving his empire to tech and e-commerce, moving away from energy, resulting in him being the wealthiest person in Asia.
Apart from Ambani and Zhong's intense comeptition, Tesla's Elon Musk became the world's richest person in the starting of the year 2021 before Amazon.com Inc's Jeff Bezos claimed the first spot in the game.
