The executive committee of the Louisiana Republican party voted to censure Senator Bill Cassidy after he voted to impeach Trump at the Impeachment Trial.

The Hill quoted the brief statement by the party, “The Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Louisiana has unanimously voted to censure Senator Bill Cassidy for his vote cast earlier today to convict former President Donald J. Trump on the impeachment charge.”

Cassidy joined the democrats along with other Senators to convict Donald Trump for inciting the insurrection at the United States Capitol.

Trump, however, was acquitted from the charges as the Senate fell low by 10 votes to reach the required 2-3rd majority of 67 out of 100 Senators.

The Lousiana GOP was quick to censure Cassidy for his vote just hours after the tally.

“We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the vote today by Sen. Cassidy to convict former President Trump,” the party said on Twitter. “Fortunately, clearer heads prevailed and President Trump has been acquitted of the impeachment charge filed against him.”

Cassidy tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict because the country and the constitution is "more important than any one person." He added, “I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty.”

Previously, the Wyoming Republican Party voted to formally censure Rep. Liz Cheney after she voted in favor of impeaching Trump at the House of Representatives.
