Microsoft Corp is confident, its search engine Bing to fill the gap if Google pulls its search over required payment according to the new government policy.
Australia has enforced new laws that will force internet heavyweights to negotiate payment with local media outlets whose content-links drive traffic to their platform.
Internet giants including Google's search engine have called this law unworkable. They warned they would withdraw their services if the Australian Government decided to carry on with its decision.
Reuters reports Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella speaking to the Australian PM about the rules. According to Reuters, Australian PrimeMinister Scott Morrison said the software company was ready to grow the presence of its search tool, Bing. Bing is now a distant number two player in Australia like it is almost everywhere else in the world.
Reuters quoted Microsoft spokeswoman's confirmation of the discussion. She said, “We recognize the importance of a vibrant media sector and public interest journalism in a democracy and we recognize the challenges the media sector has faced over many years through changing business models and consumer preferences.”
There has been no official statement from a Google representative yet.
