On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives held a session to impeach President Donald Trump for a second since 2019 time after the deadly riot at the Capitol last week over his "incitement of an insurrection".
"We are debating this historic measure at an actual crime scene, and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for the President of the United States," Jim McGovern, Chairman of House Rules, said after the session began shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time.
It is predicted that the Democratic majority House will effectively pass the legislation impeaching Trump for "high crimes and misdemeanors" over his involvement in the Capitol storm, making him the first US president to be impeached twice in US history.
The House is now starting with one hour of discussion on the law that governs the debate on impeachment and will then hold a vote on the rule. Before taking a final vote, senators would then continue with two hours of discussion on the impeachment bill.
