As reported today in Damascus, the Syrian Computing Society (SSC) subsidiary in the province of Latakia won first place in the Ada Lovelace 2020 international online competition.

The team's ideas on humanitarian and social issues and women's empowerment, the methods of using artificial intelligence technology to detect that technology, were highlighted by Maryam Fayyoud, head of the branch and supervisor of the competition.

Furthermore, she added that the winners presented methods of using artificial intelligence technology to detect and reduce the impact of fires, ways of evacuating a disaster area, and drug addiction.

'Winning first place inspires and encourages us to continue the work that we have started since the launch of the concept of science clubs focusing on children and adolescents,' Fayyad said.

For her part, group coach Maram Jouriyeh said that there were three teams of 13 boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18, as well as four supervisors, along with 23 others from various countries around the world.

The international event celebrates Ada Lovelace, the daughter of the poet Lord Byron, who in the mid-19th century was an English mathematician and writer and the first computer programmer to write an algorithm for a computer machine.
