A Journey That Spans Continents

Bijaya’s odyssey from the picturesque hills of Nepal to the esteemed halls of a leading U.S. university embodies a narrative of ambition, commitment, and a lifelong pursuit of service. With over 12 years as a registered nurse, she has honed her skills across diverse specialties ranging from emergency and orthopedic nursing to medical-surgical care. Her journey truly took flight when she donned two hats in Nepal: that of a dedicated nurse and a police officer for eight transformative years, blending healthcare with public safety in a manner few could imagine.

A Legacy of Service in Uncharted Territories

Bijaya’s global footprint extends beyond her native land; she served valiantly as a Peacekeeper and Senior Nursing Officer for the United Nations in Haiti during the MINUJUSTH operations from 2018 to 2019. In these challenging conditions, she brought critical healthcare to underserved populations while contributing to peacekeeping efforts, a testimony to her unwavering resolve and humanitarian spirit.

In 2023, her compassionate nursing care at Shannon Medical Center in Texas earned her another DAISY Award, solidifying her standing as an exemplary figure in the nursing community. Bijaya’s accolades don’t stop there — she is also a proud recipient of the United Nations Medal for her peacekeeping contributions, alongside numerous recognitions and appreciation letters from UN delegates and educational scholarships awarded throughout her academic  career. Currently, Bijaya works as a registered nurse in the Medical Surgical and Oncology department at a medical center in Texas, where her outstanding contributions have earned her multiple nominations for recognition. Over the past few months, she has repeatedly been honored as an ‘Exceptional Associate,’ a title reflecting her high level of patient satisfaction as indicated by surveys and heartfelt letters of appreciation from the individuals she cares for.

In addition to her nursing duties, Bijaya is an accomplished writer, having authored various health-related articles for a number of publications, including the UN magazine. Her creative talents shine through in her writings, and she remains committed to adhering to scholarly standards while producing a diverse range of articles across different media platforms.

A Moment of Joy

The news of Bijaya’s selection as a DAISY Award Honoree for 2024 felt like a dream come true for her. “When I received that email from the respected Dean, pure joy washed over me,” she recalls. This prestigious recognition is a feather in her cap, igniting her passion for nursing even further and reinforcing her dedication to making a difference in healthcare.

Honor and Advocacy

Bijaya has also joined the ranks of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, signifying her academic excellence and leadership in the nursing profession. Her induction represents not just personal achievement but a commitment to elevating nursing standards globally.

In her own words, "This journey is not mine alone. I owe my achievements to my family, especially my husband, daughters, parents, and all the incredible supporters who have propelled me forward." She extends heartfelt gratitude to the faculty at Chamberlain University, whose encouragement has been invaluable throughout her journey.
