According to the French interior ministry, an attacker with a knife injured children and adults in an Alpine city before being swiftly apprehended.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that the assault occurred in Annecy's central square. In a brief tweet, he announced that police had arrested the assailant.
He tweeted that multiple people, including minors, were injured by a knife-wielding individual in a square in Annecy.
Under the condition of anonymity, because he was not authorized to discuss the developing situation, an Interior Ministry official stated that four minors and two adults were injured.
The official cautioned that the number of casualties could change as more information becomes available. The official stated that he had no information regarding the severity of the injuries.
A local politician, Antoine Armand, tweeted that children were assaulted on a playground. He referred to the attack as "abominable."
BFMTV reported that politicians halted a debate in Paris to observe a moment of reverence for the victims.
