Authorities are investigating an apparent firefight at an off-road vehicle rally in the Mexican state of Baja California, that resulted in 10 deaths and 10 injuries.
Videos shared on social media showed at least three bodies sprawled on the ground following heavy gunfire at the Ensenada rally.
The incident, which occurred early Saturday afternoon, prompted a massive mobilization of army, navy, state, and local police.
Officials in Baja California, claim that assailants in a single vehicle opened fire on rally attendees and their vehicles. State prosecutor Ricardo Iván Carpio stated that the vehicle was discovered with "perforations from gunshots and traces of blood inside."
According to the state prosecutor's office, there was evidence of crossfire indicating that it was a confrontation between organized crime organizations.
Baja California, located south of the California boundary, is a hotbed of cartel activity.
