Yesterday, five people, including an off-duty police officer, were gunned down in Raleigh, North Carolina, resulting in a major manhunt that "contained" the culprit, according to Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin.
Baldwin stated during a news conference that at least two additional persons, including a police officer, were injured and sent to a hospital.
"We must put an end to this senseless violence in America," Baldwin added, without offering much specifics on the shooting spree.
WTVD, an ABC News station, said that the suspected gunman was believed to be a white adolescent boy armed with a long gun, adding that no one had been taken into custody but that the suspect had been cornered in a garage.
Multiple crime scenes were involved with the ongoing gunfire, according to the report.
WRAL-TV's helicopter footage showed more than a dozen emergency vehicles lined up on a path through the woods.
Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina stated that he had spoken with Baldwin and was bringing state personnel to the situation.
