Elon Musk, a tech entrepreneur from the United States, denied on Tuesday that he spoke with Vladimir Putin before tweeting a contentious poll about Ukraine.

Musk asked "Ukraine-Russia Peace," or "yes" questions last week in a poll named "no" about the redoing of referendums in Moscow-annexed parts of Ukraine, the acknowledgment of Crimea's annexation, an assurance that water would continue to be provided to Crimea, and Ukraine's neutrality.

Ian Bremmer, the leader of the political-risk consulting firm Eurasia Group, issued a message to his readers earlier in the day stating that Tesla's CEO told him he spoke with the Russian president.

Later, Bremmer posted on Twitter: "Elon Musk told me he had directly discussed Ukraine with Putin and the Kremlin. He also informed me of the Kremlin's red lines.

"Nobody should trust Bremmer," Musk replied.

When asked on Twitter whether it was true or not, before his disagreement with Bremmer, Musk responded: "I have spoken to Putin only once, and that was about 18 months ago. The subject matter was space."

Bremmer stated in a subsequent tweet that he had been publishing his weekly geopolitical newsletter for twenty-four years.

"I write honestly without fear or favor, and this week’s update was no different," said Bremmer, who later added: "I’ve long admired Musk as a unique and world-changing entrepreneur, which I've said publicly. He's not a geopolitics expert."

Musk's Twitter poll on Monday about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine garnered criticism from Ukrainian officials. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a poll asking his followers if they want a Musk who favors Ukraine or Russia.

The sharpest response came from Ukraine's top diplomat in Germany, Andrij Melnyk, who urged Musk to "f..k off."

"The only outcome is that now, no Ukrainian will EVER buy your f…ing tesla crap. So good luck to you," remarked Melnyk in one tweet.
