Thursday, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck southern Peru, according to the Chilean National Seismological Center (CSN).
According to the CSN, the earthquake occurred at 240 kilometers (149.1 miles).
According to the US Tsunami Warning Center, no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.
No reports of damage or casualties have been made thus far.
As Peru is situated in a seismic zone known as the Ring of Fire, which spans the west coast of the American continent, earthquakes are common.
