According to the army, at least 30 terrorists were killed in an attack early Saturday morning against a military detachment in north-central Burkina Faso.
The army reported that five troops and ten people were hurt during the conflict.
According to a statement, the military detachment of Bourzanga in Bam province, Center-North Region, "vigorously retaliated" against an attack on its post.
"Coming in very large numbers and heavily armed, the terrorists were forced to retreat in the face of the detachment members' firepower and the air force's intervention," it stated. "Search and security operations continue in the area to locate the terrorists, some of whom have fled into the civilian population to evade the military's pursuit,"
The army reportedly confiscated ammo, approximately 30 motorcycles, an armored vehicle, communication devices, and armed trucks used by terrorists to attack the base.
In the past decade, Burkina Faso has been fighting an insurgency spread from neighboring Mali.
Saturday's strike occurred days after Thursday's attack on the Madjoari military unit in the east, in which 11 troops were killed, and 20 were injured.
