Russia announced the deployment of over 140 combat and supply ships, more than 50 aircraft, 1,000 pieces of military hardware, and 10,000 military personnel on Thursday.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian Navy would conduct a series of drills in all zones of responsibility from January to February.
According to TASS, the news release states that "In accordance with a plan for training the Russian armed forces in 2022 a series of naval exercises will be held in January-February in all zones of the fleets' responsibility under the general guidance of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov,"
"The exercises will cover the seas that surround Russia as well as critical sections of the World Ocean. There will be exercises in the Mediterranean, Northern, and Black seas, as well as the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as the Northeastern Atlantic and Pacific "According to TASS, the Defense Ministry stated.
According to TASS, six amphibious assault ships from the Baltic and Northern fleets departed Baltiysk on January 15 towards a region allocated for an upcoming exercise.
A day earlier, six Russian amphibious warfare ships from the Northern and Baltic fleets were said to have passed through the English Channel, according to The Drive. Some believe the vessels will eventually make their way to the Black Sea.
According to TASS, the six warships are currently navigating the Northern Sea.
The news of the exercises comes after President Joe Biden suggested Wednesday that a "minor incursion" by Russia into Ukrainian territory would prompt a more measured response from the US and its allies.
"It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not do," Biden told reporters during an East Room news conference, CNN reported. "But if they actually do what they're capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine."
According to CNN, Biden stated that he drew the line at "Russian forces crossing the border and killing Ukrainian fighters."
According to the Associated Press, Biden made new comments Thursday on a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"I've been absolutely clear with President Putin," Biden told the Associated Press. "He has no misunderstanding: Any, any assembled Russian units move across the Ukrainian border, that is an invasion."
According to AP, he warned that if an invasion occurs, it will be countered with a "severe and coordinated economic response,"
