Alec Baldwin's attorney and a law enforcement official confirmed Friday that the actor turned his cellphone to detectives looking into the fatal shooting on the "Rust" set in New Mexico in October.

Baldwin's iPhone was the subject of a December search warrant. The sheriff's office in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, stated earlier this week that it was still attempting to retrieve the device from the "30 Rock" actor.

On Friday, sheriff's department spokesman Juan Rios confirmed via email that Baldwin's phone had been turned over to authorities in Suffolk County, New York. The latter was now downloading pertinent material to provide to Santa Fe investigators.

Baldwin was on the Western "Rust" set, practicing a scene when the revolver he was holding discharged a live bullet, killing cameraman Halyna Hutchins. The actor has stated that he did not fire the shot and is devastated by the incident.

According to court filings, the search warrant enabled investigators to grab Baldwin's phone to review text messages, email, social media communications, browsing activity, and other data kept on the device.

Baldwin's attorney, Aaron Dyer, confirmed the actor turned over his phone to authorities on Friday.

"However, this is not a situation involving his phone, and there are no responses on his phone. Alec committed no wrongdoing, "Dyer announced in a statement.

"The real question is how live rounds ended up on the stage in the first place," he continued.
