Malikah Shabazz, the illustrious civil rights icon Malcolm X's daughter, was discovered dead in her Brooklyn, New York residence Monday, ABC News reported.

Shabazz, 56, was one of the minister's six daughters and an activist for Black liberation.

According to The New York Post, an autopsy will identify the cause of death, although foul play is not suspected at the moment.

"I am profoundly saddened by Malikah Shabazz's death," Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter Bernice King wrote on Twitter.

"My heart goes out to her family, Dr. Betty Shabazz's and Malcolm X's descendants. When Brother Malcolm was slain, Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak."

Malcolm X was killed in New York City in 1965. Two men, convicted of it, Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam, were recently acquitted by a Manhattan court after it determined they were unfairly condemned.
