On Wednesday, New Zealand announced the discovery of 100 new Delta variant Covid-19 cases in the community, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country's community outbreak to 3,733.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said at a press conference that 97 new illnesses were recorded in Auckland, the largest metropolis, and three in neighboring Waikato.

According to Bloomfield, 58 individuals are being treated in hospitals, three of whom are in intensive care or high dependency units.

He said 3,131 cases had been epidemiologically connected to another case or a sub-cluster, with a further 441 cases whose ties have yet to be thoroughly proven.

In addition, ten additional cases were discovered at the border among recent returnees. According to the Xinhua news agency, the patients have remained in controlled quarantine in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

According to the Health Ministry, the total number of verified Covid-19 cases in New Zealand is currently 6,471.

On Tuesday, 28,921 Covid-19 vaccine doses were given out, comprising 7,574 first doses and 21,347-second doses. According to Bloomfield, 88 percent of New Zealanders have received their first shot, and 76% are fully vaccinated.

Before the government lowers alert levels further and implements the new "traffic light" alert system, the country's goal is to reach 90% of those who have received their first dose.
