Last week, the World Health Organization recorded approximately 4 million coronavirus cases worldwide, the first significant decline in new infections in more than two months. There have been around 4.4 million new COVID-19 cases in the last few weeks.

In a weekly update posted on Tuesday, the UN health agency said that COVID-19 incidences had decreased in every part of the world compared to the previous week.

Even though the global death toll fell to around 62,000, st Asia, Africa had a 7% increase with the most significant drop in Southeast Asian deaths. The United States, the United Kingdom, India, Iran, and Turkey saw the most instances, and the highly contagious delta variety has already been detected in 180 countries.

COVID-19 continues to affect children and teenagers less than adults, according to the WHO, with deaths of those under the age of 24 accounting for less than 0.5 percent of global mortality.

Due to worldwide vaccine shortages, the WHO previously stated that children should not be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccines.
