The Belarusian sprinter, Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, has been granted political asylum by the polish authorities after she was tried to be forcefully deported back to Belarus by the Belarusian authorities.

The 24-year-old spent Monday night at a hotel in Tokyo airport where she sought police assistance while she was being forcefully sent to fly home.

According to Tsimanouskaya, she was forced to fly home early for publicly criticizing her coaches, as the athlete had taken to social media to complain about being picked to take part in a 400m relay event on short notice – a discipline she's had not prepared to compete in.

Earlier, Belarusian authorities removed her name from the further events saying she can not compete due to her emotional and mental state.

Tsimanouskaya managed to miss the flight after seeking police protection at the airport.

She has been staying at the Polish Embassy in Tokyo since Tuesday Morning after Poland grant her the visa. She was also offered viisa by Czechia.
