Himal Budha Magar, a native of the Bhume Municipality-2, has bagged first place in the men's side, while Humi Budhamgar of Pyuthan has bagged the first place on the women's side in the third "Guerrilla Ultra Trail Race 2021" marathon organized in Rukum(East) of Lumbini.
Himal, 18, completed the 52-kilometer distance in 5 hours and 53 minutes, while Humi, 22, completed the trail in 8 hours and 32 minutes.
Similarly, Mahat's Karman Roka Magar came second, and Sani Bheri Arjun Kumar Basnet came third. On the women's side, Rojina Budha Magar of Bhume 7 and Nirmala Budha Magar of Domai came second and third, respectively. Hundred and Twenty Nine players, including 21 women, participated in the competition.
The trail started at the Mahat village, well known for the abduction of Thule Rai during the Maoist Civil War. The runners passed through Labang village, climbed Rolpa's religious site, passed through Thabang, ascended Maring Dhuri, the land's integrated agricultural research center, and reached Mahat through a small lake.
Before and after the start of the competition, the locals boosted the morale of the runners by performing the traditional Bhume dance in their cultural instruments.
The winner of the race received Rs. 75,000, 50,000 for the second, 30,000 for the third, 15,000 for the fourth, and 5,000 for the fifth to tenth place.
Former Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Supply Ganesh Man Pun handed over trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes to the winners.
Former Minister Ganesh Man Pun, Lumbini State CA member Tej Bahadur Wali, Bhume Village Chairman Ramsur Budha Magar, Vice Chairman Man Kumari Budha Bista, Thabang Village Chairman Bir Bahadur Gharti, and other local leaders congratulated the winners and participants of the competition.
The Bhume Youth Development Center, established by the Bhume Village Municipality in 2076 BS for the overall development of the youth, has been organizing guerrilla ultra trail races for the last two years.
The Center has been conducting programs for various sports in addition to capacity building of the youth, entrepreneurship, and increasing decisive and meaningful participation in the economic, social, political, and cultural spheres of the society.
The competition's main objective is to propagate the historicity of the then 'Civil War' and promoting tourism in the district by developing and expanding war tourism.
The Third 'Guerrilla Marathon' was organized by the Bhume Youth Development Center with the support of Bhume Village Municipality, Rukum (East). The 'Guerrilla Marathon,' which started in 2075 BS, was organized for two consecutive years and was canceled in 2077 BS due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
