In Alabama, eight youngsters from a youth home for abandoned or neglected children were killed in a catastrophic multi-vehicle accident on a wet freeway during rainy weather.

In what was the most severe blow from a tropical depression that claimed 13 lives in Alabama while generating flash floods and tornadoes that wrecked hundreds of homes, the crash also killed a man and his baby in another vehicle.

According to Butler County Coroner Wayne Garlock, the collision occurred on Saturday about 35 miles south of Montgomery on Interstate 65 after vehicles hydroplaned on wet roadways.
