Rep. Elise Stefanik was formally voted into the No. 3 leadership spot in the House of Representatives on Friday, after Rep. Liz Cheney was pushed out this week.

Stefanik's (R-NY) 134-46 victory was all but assured before the vote because she came into the meeting with former President Donald Trump's support and no significant challenger.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) tried but struggled to gain momentum with his campaign. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La. ), the vice chair of the House GOP Conference, was also reportedly interested in the position but decided not to run.

Former President Trump, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) all endorsed the New York Republican, who previously chaired the moderate Tuesday Group and rose to prominence as one of Trump's top defenders during the first impeachment hearings.

Freshman Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) nominated Stefanik for the seat, which she helped elect. Meanwhile, Rep. Ken Buck of the House Freedom Caucus nominated Roy (R-Utah).
