Derek Chauvin's lawyers argued the use of deadly force used by the former Minneapolis Police Officer against George Floyd was necessary. 

The death of Floyd sparked series of protests across the United States and even outside the US, exposing the systemic violence against black people in the country.

“Derek Chauvin did exactly what he had been trained to do over the course of his 19-year career,” Chauvin's lawyer Eric Nelson said. “The use of force is not attractive, but it is a necessary component of policing.”

He argued that the video online would not have made a case without political pressure.

Before that Attorney, Jerry Blackwell argued against Chauvin saying the excessive use of force was unnecessary.
