White House Deputy Press Secretary TY Ducklo has been suspended for a week after the derogatory statements made by him to a Politico reporter were made public.
Ducklo threatened journalist Tara Palmari after she called Ducklo's girlfriend for a story on their relationship.
Ducklo's girlfriend, Alexei McCammond, is a reporter for Axios and had previously covered Biden Campaign.
Despite Ducklo was contacted by a male reporter, he chose to call Palmeri back and threatened her. He also accused her of being jealous of their relationship.
According to reports, Ducklo said, "I will destroy you." The report in Vanity Fair also says Duklo accused Palmeri of covering the story as revenge over McCammond's previous relationship with a third person.
Palmeri, however, has no relationship with McCammond and was assigned to the story as a part of her role at Politico.
Jen Psaki, Biden's press secretary shared the information on Twitter of Ducklo being suspended.
She wrote, “TJ Ducklo has apologized to the reporter, with whom he had a heated conversation about his personal life. He is the first to acknowledge this is not the standard of behavior set out by the President. In addition to his initial apology, he has sent the reporter a personal note expressing his profound regret.”
She also wrote that Ducklo will not be assigned to work with reporters at Politico. She wrote, “With the approval of the White House Chief of Staff, he has been placed on a one-week suspension without pay. Besides, when he returns, he will no longer be assigned to work with any reporters at Politico.”
Ducklo's punishment was not as harsh as Biden's promise in the inauguration. President Biden said he has a zero-tolerance policy on disrespect. He had said, “I am not joking when I say this: If you are ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot.”
