Climate Change campaigners around the world cheer the US's decision to return the Paris accord but said Washington needs to do more.

In one of his first acts as President Joe Biden issued an executive order to rejoin the Paris accord.

Climate Change campaigners say the US needs to reduce carbon emissions and encourage other countries to do so. Currently, the United States is the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. The only country ahead of the US, China plans to be carbon-free in the next four decades.

Washington formally left the pairs accord last year but the accord was already stalled since Trump took the office in 2016. Trump was always skeptical of climate change. He considered the accords as the economic burden which limited the negotiations on the paper.

Former U.N. climate chief Christiana Figueres said that she won't be surprised if the US return to the accord will be welcomed with a standing ovation but: “That doesn’t mean that they will have a standing ovation forever. They have to prove that they are really determined to make the necessary changes.”
