On Thursday, King Salman of Saudi Arabia got a Covid-19 vaccine jab more than three weeks after the kingdom kicked off a three-phase vaccination program, official media said.

In the futuristic Red Sea city of Neom, king Salman, 85, "received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine,"  the Saudi Press Agency said.

Photos and videos of King receiving the Covid vaccine were released by the Official Media.

After receiving the first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, On December 17, Saudi Arabia launched its coronavirus vaccination campaign.

Starting from the people over 65 and those with chronic ailments or at high risk of infection, the program would be launched in three phases, the health ministry reported.

In the second phase, people over 50 would be vaccinated and everyone else will be included in the third stage. The vaccine would be free for citizens and residents.

With the death toll of 6,000+, Saudi Arabia recorded more than  363,000 novel coronavirus cases, which is the highest among the Gulf Arab states.

The Kingdom has also reported a high recovery rate.

According to official figures, more than 34 million people reside in Saudi Arabia.
