Giuliani is one of 53 advisors to the President who have contracted the virus, an unprecedented toll, but not unexpected considering the complacency that has been evident for months around his inner circle.

It follows a bizarre weekend in which Trump held his first rally since the election and came up with another series of falsehoods, including claims he won the state of Georgia, a "fire-hose of lies" as his critics called it.

The President showed no sign of acknowledging the political fact that while he indicated that he would run again in 2024, he lost the election.

In the middle of all this, the elected President sought to rise above the noise. Joe Biden asked Americans to make every effort to keep the virus at bay, calling it a patriotic responsibility.

The President currently has just 44 days left in the White House, and his lawyer's wellbeing - the man he will desperately need after 20 January - is now in severe doubt.
