As the US presidential polls draw closer to a conclusion, initial polling trends show that at the early stage, the US President holds the lead in the Electoral College votes, with a 42-30 lead over Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

In the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee, Trump is expected to win, while his rival Biden is scheduled to win Vermont, Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York, CNN reported.

In the state of Florida, which has one of the highest numbers of electoral votes among swing states at 29, 91 percent of the votes were reported.

In Florida, Trump is currently leading Biden by 2 points, while in Pennsylvania, Biden has managed to hold a good lead over the President.

CNN reported that Biden now has a lead in North Carolina, Ohio, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Texas as of 9 pm ET (7:30 pm IST), while the President is leading in Florida, Michigan, Georgia, and Virginia.

With 92 electoral votes in Ohio, Michigan, Texas, and Pennsylvania, swing states such as Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia have 60 electoral votes.

To win the White House again, each candidate needs to secure a minimum of 270 out of 538 electoral votes.

With all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate, voters are deciding between Trump and his Democratic challenger, Biden.

Biden would be the oldest president in US history at the time of his inauguration, at the age of 78, if elected. Also, if he wins a second term, Trump, who is currently 74, would be the oldest president ever.

This year, some 239 million individuals are eligible to vote. It could take days for the mail-in ballots to be counted-meaning a winner might not be declared in the hours after Tuesday's polls close.
