Tuesday, Poland's largest World War Two bomb exploded underwater when the naval divers tried to disfigure the war.
The Tallboy bomb, the British Royal Air Force (RAF), used by more than 750 people were evacuated from the area near the Piast Canal outside of Swinoujscie town. It was about 5,400 kg, of which 2,400 kg were explosives.
“The deflagration process turned into detonation. The object can be regarded as neutralized and not threatened, "the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla spokesman, Second Lieutenant Grzegorz Lewandowski, was quoted by state-run news agency PAP.
"Except the hazard zone were all mine divers."
Swinojscie contains a Liquefied Natural Gas ( LNG) terminal, but the town's mayor's spokesman said PAP hadn't injured anybody and hadn't damaged any infrastructure.
On Poland's border, the Piast Canal connects the Baltic Sea with the Oder. In 1945, in an assault against German cruiser Lutzow, the RAF dropped the bomb.
