Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, one of the country’s most respected politicians, died on Monday (August 31). He was 84.
He had been admitted to the hospital on August 10 after a fall at home, was diagnosed with the coronavirus during a coronavirus test.
He died at Army Hospital in Delhi, according to Indian media.
At the hospital, he underwent surgery for a blood clot in the brain.
Former President Mukherjee's health has worsened since Sunday, according to Indian media reports.
Later in the afternoon, his son Abhijit Mukherjee made the announcement.
Former President Mukherjee was in a coma and provided ventilator assistance and was in septic shock due to infection in his lungs.
