Shawn Mendes has canceled the remainder of his world tour, including North American and European gigs, to focus on his mental health.

"I was not at all prepared for how challenging touring would be after this time off," the singer-songwriter wrote Wednesday on social media.

"After meeting with my team and working with an excellent group of health professionals, it has become more apparent that I need to take the time I've never taken before to regain my composure and return to work stronger than before.

Mendes has had six Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, including "There's Nothing Holding Me Back," "If I Can't Have You," and "Senorita" with his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello.

Mendes began his world tour in June to promote his album "Wonder," but earlier this month, he announced he needed a three-week hiatus. This break has expanded to encompass the entire tour.

Mendes stated that he was "hopeful that I would be able to resume the rest of the tour dates after taking some much-needed time off," but that "at this time I must prioritize my health."

The singer-songwriter reassured his followers that he would continue making songs and touring in the future. "I promise to return as soon as I have had sufficient time to heal," he wrote.
